Dolly Parton lends her magical voice to one of the biggest a capella groups right now. The song was under Pentatonix’s fourth album Classic that was released back in April 2017. This was track number 7 along with other classic hits such as “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Imagine,” and “Can’t help falling in love.”
This amazing performance by both Dolly and Pentatonix earned them a Grammy award for Best Country Duo/Group performance.
Dolly Parton and the Pentatonix
It is rare for the Grammy-winning group, Pentatonix, to feature someone on their covers. But, I guess if you had the opportunity to sing with the legendary Dolly Parton, you could not say no.
Although the group operates in a different way since they are an a capella group, Dolly’s voice perfectly fits well with them. She and Scott Hoying, one of the vocalists of the group, led the performance all the way.
There were not any notable changes to the song. Although when doing covers, the group usually do a change-up with the arrangement of the song. But for this one, they want to still do the original Dolly version since they were able to get Dolly to perform with them.
Reviews are in and People are Loving It
Aside from winning a Grammy for the performance, critiques were actually loving the performance.
Julia Brucculieri of The Huffington Post said that it is
” A hauntingly beautiful a cappella update.”
Markos Papadatos of Digital Journal also said that:
“Pentatonix proves yet again that they can do no wrong with anything they sing or cover. The addition of Dolly Parton helps elevate ‘Jolene’ to a higher level, and they prove that it is possible for heaven to be a place on earth. Their a cappella rendition earns five out of five stars.”
Sara Vallone of the Independent Journal Review also had this to say:
“Pentatonix just did justice to Dolly Parton’s ‘Jolene’,” and that “Parton is proving once again just how timeless she truly is.”
Parton and Pentatonix only proved that classic songs are still well loved even in today’s standard. Having it introduced to a new generation of fans is a brilliant move by both artists. Kudos to them.
