“Tequila” Hits You Good
Listening to Dan + Shay’s “Tequila” can be equated to the drink itself. It’s strong, and it burns at first intake, but there is a certain kind of taste that goes along with it that makes you crave for more. It’s a heartbreak song, one that country music has a knack with. But the award-winning country music duo invested so much heart into the song; you can’t help but look back at ‘the one that got away’ in your life.
The narrative of the song is a pretty straightforward one. It sings about how something as simple as a shot of tequila can bring back a wave of memories. Some can argue that these are wanted reminders. Others might dub them as painful, yet not totally regrettable. But the way “Tequila” makes you feel certainly doesn’t yield to just being hurt. It unearths the layers of emotions in how it feels like to break it off with the person you thought was the love of your life. You feel the sadness, the nostalgia, the happiness, and the regret, all while you’re stuck in the reverie that Dan + Shay spun with their song.
And the package does not stop there! The song is accompanied by a gorgeous music video that completely complements the song. It accurately portrays “Tequila” feelings, as well as adding a very interesting twist. The ending, however, will have you screaming at your screens with an open-ended one. But, at least it leaves some type of hope for happiness in the song, even if it is only implied in the video.

Dan + Shay is a country music duo from Nashville. They are composed of vocalists and songwriters Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney. The duo has been active in the Nashville scene from 2012, and certainly, they have not gone unnoticed.
