Fall in Love All Over Again With Crystal Gayle and Eddie Rabbitt’s “You and I”

In 1982, Eddie Rabbitt enlisted Crystal Gayle for “You and I.” The song was the first single from Rabbitt’s eighth studio album, Radio Romance. It went to the top spot of the US Hot Country Songs as well as the Canadian RPM Adult Contemporary Tracks. 

“You and I” also became a major country-pop crossover hit for both artists, peaking No. 7 at US Billboard Hot 100 and No. 2 at US Billboard Adult Contemporary.

One of the Most Enchanting Duets of the ‘80s

Written by Frank J. Myers, “You and I” is a beautiful ballad that tells the tale of a couple in love, who remembers very well their first embrace and the promises they made. They knew that being together is the only thing they wanted.

“And now, your love is my reward. And I love you even more than I ever did before. Just you and I, sharing our love together. And I know in time, we’ll build the dreams we treasure. And we’ll be all right, just you and I,” the song goes.

Indeed, love is in the air as these two beloved singers deliver one of the most enchanting duets of the 80s. Eddie Rabbitt was one of country music’s most innovative artists during the late ’70s and early ’80s. Before he was recording hits such as “Drivin’ My Life Away” and “I Love a Rainy Night,” the Brooklyn native was a successful songwriter, penning Ronnie Milsap’s “Pure Love” and Elvis Presley’s “Kentucky Rain,” just to name a few.

Though it took a few years to get his recording career off the ground, Rabbitt continued to write professionally until he started releasing his own music in 1977 and even won the ACM Award for Top New Male Vocalist.

Crystal Gayle, on the other hand, was known for her seemingly endless hair, iconic voice, and famous family. She stole the world’s heart with her signature song, and chart-topping crossover hit, “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue.” Being the sister of country icon Loretta Lynn, Gayle started her rise to fame on the country charts, but most of her music found its way on the pop charts after her first smash hit stormed nearly every chart!
