The hymn was masterfully performed by the great Conway Twitty, but the hymn’s origin comes from Doris Mae Akers, an American gospel singer, and songwriter. Thanks to her, we were able to receive this hymn and even more, we were able to listen to the country legend sing it.

The hymn speaks about the works of the Holy Spirit in the community or the church. The simple, straightforward, and heartfelt manner the lyrics of the hymn expresses the wonder of the Holy Spirit and the warmth that it brings us when we feel its presence.

We never forget to think of God and Jesus but we always seem to look over the Holy Spirit. We need to reflect on that, the Holy Spirit is a very important part of our belief. The Holy Spirit is what leads us to Jesus, whatever Jesus wants to tell us; it is the Holy Spirit that communicates to us.

“But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth… He will glorify Me because it is from Me that He will receive what He will make known to you” – John 16:13-14

Without the Holy Spirit we wouldn’t be able to hear the truth, Jesus’ truth, and without that, we would be hopelessly lost. Thankfully, with wonderful hymns like “Sweet, Sweet Spirit” we are reminded of the essential role the Holy Spirit plays in our belief. The fact that Conway Twitty performs this hymn is just an awesome bonus.
