Through prayers, we can communicate with God. We can throw our sorrows and worries by sincerely talking to him. Anytime, we can have a heart-to-heart communication with him. “Sweet, Sweet Spirit” is an excellent instrument to be able to have a connection with God. The words and lyrics patched with mellow music can truly link between God and you.

Let Conway Twitty help and guide you have a connection to the highest almighty. His voice can also be God’s instrument for us to get closer to him. We can say anything we want for God will listen to everything we are distressed about.

On the other hand, let’s not forget God when things are going right. When we are having the best things of our lives, it’s just right to thank the lord for he is the reason behind our blessings.

Sweet, Sweet Spirit…

Doris Mae Akers was the writer of the words and lyrics of “Sweet, Sweet Spirit.” In 1958 Akers formed the Sky Pilot Choir, the first interracial choir in Los Angeles. The choir was the devotee of the African American gospel music.

In 1962 of Sunday Morning, Akers and the Sky Pilot Choir was preparing for a congregational service. When the singers were supposed to go, Akers stopped them as they are not ready for they didn’t pray enough. So, she told them to pray again. She believes that prayer is more important than a great voice. Then, Akers was convinced but he hated to go since there is a “Sweet, Sweet Spirit” in the room. That phrase and scenario brought her to write the hymn.

The next day, she went on writing the hymn. The particular line “Sweet Heavenly Dove” was inspired by Matthew 3:16-17. The line focused on the baptism of Jesus when:

“he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

Many famous singers have recorded Dot Akers’ songs, including George Beverly Shea, Mahalia Jackson, the Roberta Martin Singers, Aretha Franklin, and the Stamps-Baxter Quartet.
