I don’t know if this is common to most of us, but sometimes we just can’t understand our own selves. We tend to feel some kind of emptiness inside us, and we remain clueless about what can truly satisfy that desolation that bombards us. In the search for an answer, we can’t avoid compromising some of our relationships. Intentionally or unintentionally, we hurt the ones who care for us.

Colder Weather

Zach Brown Band’s single, “Colder Weather,” tells a story of a man who’ve compromised his relationship because of unspecified personal reasons. He’s in love with the girl, and he even notes that “he needs her,” but he can’t just stay because he was “born for leavin’.”

He said I wanna see you again
But I’m stuck in colder weather
Maybe tomorrow will be better
Can I call you then
She said you’re ramblin’ man
You ain’t ever gonna change
You gotta gypsy soul to blame
And you were born for leavin’

In figurative language, “colder weather” is a metaphor for depression or dissatisfaction. The man in the song may be looking for something that caused him to move from one place to another.  He is compared to a gyspsy, who is always on the move and never stays in the same place for too long. Further, the “colder weather” can also refer to the man’s fear of commitment. And, that fear initiated excuses and unfulfilled promises. In the end, the Colorado girl left him.

Colder weather, inspired by a true story

“Colder Weather” is ZBB’s second single from their 2010 album, You Get What You Give. The song was inspired by Wyatt Durrette’s past romance story. He narrated:

“There was a girl I was seeing, who lived in Kansas City. We really liked each other, but geography and timing just wasn’t working for us. She was getting pretty frustrated with the whole thing and wanted me to slow down, as far as traveling so much and all those things. I wasn’t willing to do that because we were just getting started, and I’m chasing my dreams.”

From that experience, Durrette sat with his fellow band members, and they came up with “Colder Weather.”

So, fella, are you currently stuck in a “Colder Weather” too? Let’s hope that everything will get better tomorrow.
