“Church Bells” Chart Performance

“Church Bells” was penned by Zach Crowell, Brett James, and Hillary Lindsey in 2015 for her album Storyteller. She released the song in 2016 as a single. Therefore, it made it to number two on the country chart. In addition, she scored her last number one on the Country Airplay chart with this song.

The Story of the Song

The song tells the story of a poor girl named Jenny. She may be poor but she was born to have such beauty that can make her take home a rich man. Jenny ended up marrying a man who can provide her with everything she needs. She was lucky enough to live a comfortable life.

Jenny grew up wild, like a blackfoot daisy
Out in the shack with a blue tick hound
Broke as hell, but blessed with beauty
The kind that a rich man can’t turn down
She caught the eye of an oil man dancing

However, it wasn’t long enough when she realized that she married the wrong man. Her husband was a drunkard, and Jenny ends up being beaten up by him.

It was all bruises, covered in makeup
Dark sunglasses
And that next morning, sitting in the back pew

At the end of the song, Jenny poisoned her husband because she cannot live an abusive life anymore.

What’s amazing about this song is that you can follow the story of the character of the song. You know the life of the character from the beginning of the song up until the very end. That’s one great aspect of country music. It has the ability to tell a complete story in just a few minutes.

Here’s the story of Jenny in Carrie Underwood’s “Church Bells.”
