Country star Chris Young honors country legends including Merle Haggard, George Strait, and more in his new single "Raised On Country."
The song was released at exactly midnight on the 4th of January. It is co-written by Young, Corey Crowder, and Cary Barlow. Furthermore, Young teased a portion of the track to fans during the last moments of 2018.
"Raised on Country" marks the first peek fans have of a brand new, but yet to be announced, unnamed project for the rising country star. It would be safe to assume it will be a strong follow-up to his 2018 "Hangin' On."
The country star tips his hat to his traditional roots. If there was some doubt before as to what his heritage is, now everyone knows! He expressed his reasoning behind the song in the lyrics of the song. Young even name drops some heavy country stars in the creative lyrics:
I was raised on Merle, raised on Willie-Raised on Country Lyrics
Got my Honky Tonk attitude from Joe Diffie
Daddy did too, it's family tradition
If someone cranks it up, you can't help but listen
My upbringing sounds like George Strait singing
And I gotta give props to the radio
'Cause if you know me, I was raised on country
Young took to social media to announce his song dropping, and he has some sentimental words for the heartfelt record:
“Right now one of my favorite songs I have ever written drops… I remember listening to country music on the radio as I grew up and I fell in love with it. This is an anthem/a party/and an ode to what I love. Enjoy!!! Here we go!”-via Chris Young's Official Instagram Account
The song is fast to become an anthem to all country enthusiasts out there! And with him singing all the things we love at the top of his deep baritone voice, we don't mind it one bit!
