48 yrs ago, Charley Pride was in Johnny Cash Show

Once upon a time, Johnny Cash delivered to our televisions what could be the glorious moments of duets with respected country artists of today and one of his amazing guests is no other than ‘Kiss an Angel Good Mornin’” singer, Charley Pride.

Charley Pride, The Johnny Cash Show

On September 6, 1969, Charley Pride graced the much talked about television with a full-blown Hank Williams medley and sang with the Man in Black starting it with Johnny Cash’s ‘I Can’t Help It’ while the two legends were sharing the small screen strumming their guitar. It can be remembered that the said song was a Hank William original that was rerecorded by Johnny Cash.

Next, they also sang another Hank Williams song entitled ‘Your Cheatin Heart’ which earned the original singer a Grammy Hall of Fame for the said song. Finally, the mash-up ended with Williams Sr.’s Kaw-Liga while the two seemingly enjoyed their honky tonk duet with each other.

It’s a bummer to think that these two legendary artists never had any serious collaboration aside from the fact that Charley Pride was a guest on Johnny Cash’s show. It could have been glorious to have a hard copy of voices from the pioneers of true country music.

On a much general note, The Johnny Cash show ran from June 7, 1969, to March 31, 1971, in a much traditional ABC network that is different from what we have known today. It was always taped at the heart of Nashville in Ryman Auditorium.

Watch and prepare your throwback feels:

“I Can’t Help It (If I’m Still In Love With You)”

Today I passed you on the street and my heart fell at your feet
I can’t help it if I’m still in love with you
Somebody else stood by your side and he looked so satisfied
I can’t help it if I’m still in love with you

A picture from the past came slowly stealing
As I brushed your arm and walked so close to you
Then suddenly, I got that old time feeling
I can’t help it if I’m still in love with you

It’s hard to know, another’s lips will kiss you
And hold you just the way I used to do
Oh, Heaven only knows how much I miss you
I can’t help it if I’m still in love with you
