Former couple and country music artists Rodney Crowell and Rosanne Cash had been a positive influence to each other’s career from the day they got married. Crowell had produced most of Cash’s albums while her success inspired him for his songwriting. Even if Crowell had to temporarily put on hold his career to focus on producing his ex-wife’s album never became an issue for him. All of their efforts have paid off, after all, given the considerable amount of success that Cash’s career had reaped.
In 1988, they recorded a duet together that Crowell penned. The song was called “It’s Such a Small World” and appeared on his notable album Diamonds & Dirt. The song recounts a tale of two former lovers who, after not seeing each other for a long time, met by chance in New York City. Whether or not the couple’s relationship was on the rocks during the song’s creation, it somewhat hinted at their impending breakup. It has been apparent from the lyrics that such meeting wouldn’t mean getting back to each other as it’s just a one-night-fair.
Crowell and Cash have been living their lives separately since their divorce in 1992. Without a doubt, they remained true to what they conveyed in their song “It’s Such a Small World.” Their duet record went on to become a No. 1 hit on the country charts in 1988. Also, Billboard named Cash as Top Singles Artist on that same year.

On their Married Life and Separation
Rodney Crowell and the eldest daughter of the “Man in Black“ first met at Waylon Jennings’ house in Nashville in 1979. That same year, the two tied the knot. After which, Crowell began producing Cash’s records. They have three daughters namely Caitlin (1980), Chelsea (1982), and Carrie (1988). A few years earlier, Crowell was married to Martha. He has a daughter with her named Hannah. Despite her career taking its momentum, Cash needed to take some time off from touring to look after their kids including Hannah.
Sadly, after being married for 12, Cash and Crowell divorced in 1992. While the exact reason behind the split up was never disclosed, it seems that the separation had caused them both so much pain. This became very evident in their succeeding albums which drew much inspiration from their breakup. Both have their respective spouse now. But the two remained good friends and still perform together occasionally.
