Fresh out of high school, Danielle El-Jor did not realize that her dreams and her life as a whole will change forever. She had this dream of singing on the stage of The Voice, where some of the well-known artists now have started their careers. As an aspiring singer, Danielle was all set to go to New York City to have her audition on The Voice.

Unfortunately, her life suddenly had its twist and life played its role. All of a sudden, her dream was compromised and she had to discontinue her plans. Danielle was diagnosed with stage three Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a kind of cancer. It is a malignant lymphoma that is characterized by progressive enlargement of lymph nodes, spleen, and liver and by progressive anemia. This resulted in the drastic change in her life.
In spite of her plans of joining The Voice auditions, Danielle was unable to push through because she needed to start treatments immediately.
In an interview with WTVR CBS 6 News, she shared what she has undergone:
“I had no time to postpone chemotherapy because it was rapidly spreading in my body.”
Furthermore, Danielle’s The Voice audition was not the only thing that she had to put on hold. In fact, she also had to halt her studies at Longwood University. However, despite all the setbacks she has had, she stayed determined to battle and beat her cancer. She even admitted and said that God had a bigger plan for her.
Danielle & Garth Brooks’ Performance
Today, Danielle has battled out cancer and she is a survivor. To note, she is finally getting the chance to reach her dreams. Thanks to one of country music’s superstars – Garth Brooks.
Prior to this, country music radio station, K95 held a contest. They asked their listeners to send in a story about someone who has faced adversity. One of Danielle’s friends sent them her story. Luckily, the radio station selected her to receive some tickets, as well as meet and greet passes to Garth Brooks’ concert.
During her meet and greet, Danielle shared her story with Garth and his wife, Trisha Yearwood. She told them her lost hope of auditioning for The Voice. The two were deeply touched and moved by Danielle’s story. Since Danielle never got the chance to sing in an audition as she had planned, Garth gave her something special. He then invited her to his sound check the next day. Indeed, he witnessed how talented the young lady is.
In an excited manner, Danielle revealed what happened:
“I started singing, the band started playing, and it just all came very naturally. He [Garth] was like ‘Let’s do that song tonight!’ I was like ‘Yes, of course!”
Interestingly, Danielle and Garth decided to render one of Randy Travis’ hits, “I Told You So.” Sure enough, it became an emotional performance in front of a jam-packed house in Richmond, Virginia. Danielle captivated the audience with her heavenly voice. And, she seemed like a complete natural onstage with Garth.
Moreover, she expressed her appreciation to Garth and said:
“It was like I was on stage with my best friend. He was amazing…. Looking into Garth’s eyes, you could just see the dad in him. I felt like he would never want to see his daughter in the position I was in.”
After her stunning performance with the country star, Danielle hopes to finally be able to step on The Voice stage. Of course, we’d love to see her be a part of the prestigious singing contest. We’re crossing our fingers to seeing her soon on the show.
As for now, let’s relive her performance of “I Told You So” with Garth Brooks:
