Glen Campbell and Bobbie Gentry’s Greatest Collaboration

“All I Have to Do is Dream” is a song written by Boudleaux Bryant in 1958. It was originally recorded  by the Everly Brothers as the A-side to their song “Claudette.” They have made the song enter the Billboard Hot 100 chart at No. 49. It remained for a total of 4 weeks on the chart. Aside from making the song enter the chart, the Everly Brothers’ song was included in the Rolling Stones 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

Versions of “All I Have to Do is Dream”

In 1963, Richard Chamberlain released his cover of this song for his album Richard Chamberlain Sings. His version reached No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In addition, it also secured a spot on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart at No. 6.

Another version was released in 1969. This time it was a duet by country singers Glen Campbell and Bobbie Gentry. Their duet together made their song enter various charts inside and outside the US. Campbell and Gentry’s version reached No. 6 on the Hot Country Songs chart. In addition, it placed at No. 27 on the Hot 100 chart and No. 4 on the Adult Contemporary chart.

The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band reached No. 66 on the Hot 100 chart. Another artist who covered the song was Cliff Richard. He performed the song with the Everly Brothers, Phil Everly, in 1994.

The Album

Glen Campbell and Bobbie Gentry’s collaboration became a huge success and is known in country music’s history. They worked together to release their first studio album Bobbie Gentry and Glen Campbell in 1968. In their first album, they have not included their single “All I Have to Do is Dream.” However, in 1983, they re-released their album again, but this time they added the song “All I Have to Do is Dream.” They have also changed the title of the album to All I Have to Do Is Dream. Their album went to No. 1 on the US Billboard Country Albums chart.
