“Would you be ready if Jesus came today would you be ready to follow in his way,
Would he take you by the hand or would he have you turn away?”
Immediately as the thought to the song danced around in my head, God corrected me with a powerful, distinctive word of reproach,
“No! No! Today,my child.”
I recognized without hesitation that Jesus could return any minute. It will not simply be a matter of days, months, or years. Not even minutes, seconds, or milliseconds. It is a matter of a drop by the moment, time, state, ambiguity, and of breath. Jesus could return anytime He wanted. Do you think the world is ready? You, yourself for one, are you ready?
Let’s Take It from Someone Who Was Ready
Most of us may be familiar with the story of Zacchaeus, the little man. There is actually a children’s song about him being a wee little man. There are a number of other things we learn about him from the bible. He was a wealthy tax-collector, who desired to see Jesus. He climbed a tree just to make sure he sees Jesus enter the place. All along, he knew all about it and he planned on ways to be able to see Him. Zacchaeus, humble as he is, made himself ready for His coming. Focusing on a bible phrase,
“And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for today I must abide at thy house.”
Get a hold of Jesus’ line to Zacchaeus. In the words of our childhood, it would be this, “Ready or not here I come!” Jesus tells Zacchaeus to get down from the tree because He was coming to visit his house. For no apparent reason, it was never explained in the passages why Jesus asked this of Zacchaeus. All we know is from that day, Zacchaeus’ life was never the same. Would you like that prize, too?
If Jesus comes to your house today, would your life be changed, too?
Gather Your Strength
God wanted us to know that the return of Jesus is upon us. People had to be ready to spend their perpetuity either with God in Heaven or with the devil in hell. Time is important. Let us take into consideration expecting a visitor at our place over the weekend. Would you have planned before they arrive? Of course, you would. So, let’s make a list of things to expect. I will leave the reflection to you, folks.
Who: Jesus
When: Soon
How: Literally
Why: He Promised
Folks, Jesus is coming. Will we do as Zacchaeus and joyfully receive Him?
