As one of the celebrated country music artists, Bryan White has produced songs deserving a spot on the country charts. Of his 17 charting singles, six became number 1. That included but not limited to “Someone Else’s Star” and “Rebecca Lynn.” In addition, White has also co-written major hits popularized by other country music stars such as “Imagine That” by Diamond Rio and “I Don’t Believe in Goodbye” recorded by Sawyer Brown.
While White’s releases enjoyed chart successes over the years, the singer looked back to a particularly significant moment in his career. He gladly shared his memorable experience upon hearing his own vocals on the radio for the very first time. It happened sometime in 1995. He was on his way to visit a radio station when, unexpectedly, a familiar voice hit his audible senses. It wasn’t long before he realized it’s his single being played on air.
Fascinated by this, he asked the record label representative who was with him that time to pull over. They stopped at a convenience store and he made a phone call to the radio station. They put him on the air. Feeling overly jazzed up, he thanked the radio station and pointed out to them that it was really his first time to hear his voice on the airwaves. And, that happened quite accidentally.
“I wish I still had a copy of that audio of me calling in; that would be so special to have. I can visually see it; I can still see where I’m at, what the gas station looked like and the rep who was with me was smiling.”
The Song Played
The track behind White’s unforgettable experience is called “Eugene, You Genius.” An up-tempo, a tongue-in-a-cheek kind of song, the tune was his first single from his eponymous debut album released in 1994. The song reached No. 48 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. Although it did not make it to the top of the chart, the tracks album went platinum later. Here’s the music video of the song to lighten your mood.
