Just last Tuesday, October 24, some of the brightest country stars gathered to spread a significant message to the audience. Kelsea Ballerini, Trisha Yearwood, and several other country artists were all present for the 2017 Opry Goes Pink, in an effort to spread breast cancer awareness and encourage our friends and loved ones battling the said illness.
Kick-starting the show was Kelsea Ballerini. Together with a 10-year-old cancer survivor, Chrissy, the two lovely ladies flipped the switch to reveal the signature pink barn backdrop at the Grand Ole Opry. Trisha Yearwood got on stage as well to serenade the audience and introduce the brave and young cancer survivor, Chrissy. She was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was only eight years old, making her the youngest person to have ever had to struggle with it. Thankfully, Chrissy is now cancer-free. Chrissy’s parents also happen to be cancer survivors.
Additional performances for the star-studded and charity-driven night include appearances from Connie Smith, Easton Corbin, Runaway June, and Charles Esten. Opry Goes Pink also served as the Opry debut for LANCO.
Each ticket sold for Opry Goes Pink donated $5 to the non-profit organization, Women Rock for the Cure. The organization has been adamant about providing support to young women struggling with breast cancer since its establishment in 2007. Other activities promoted by Women Rock for the Cure include spreading awareness of the disease, along with running outreach programs by collaborating with big and small names in the music and entertainment industry.
In previous Opry Goes Pink events, country artists like Martina McBride, LeAnn Rimes, Carrie Underwood, Kacey Musgraves, The Judds, and the Rascal Flatts have lent their voices and were given the task to flip the switch to open the annual show.
Meanwhile, another yearly initiative made possible by country artists like Jason Aldean, Chris Young, with Dee Jay Silver, and Kane Brown helped raise over $3.6 million for breast cancer research.
With more successful shows that go beyond entertainment and focus on helping out our brothers and sisters in need, country artists are contributing more light and positivity to this otherwise dark and scary world.
