In 1983, Bonnie Tyler released her International album “Faster than the Speed of the Night” which included “Total Eclipse of the Heart.” The song and the album received massive support from music obsessives inside and outside of the country music scheme. Also, the hit became her signature song. Little did people know, on the same album, she released her single “Straight from the Heart.” The song was also a hit all over the globe, but it wasn’t as successful as “Total Eclipse of the Heart.”
Straight from the Heart…
Eric Kagna was the songwriter behind the words and lyrics of “Straight from the Heart.” The official songwriter credit is shared equally between Bryan Adams and Kagna. This is for the reason that Adam has contributed some of the words and lyrics.
Moreover, the song was primarily recorded by Ian Lloyd in 1980. In 1981, Jon English recorded his version and released under his album “In Roads.” Then, in 1982, Rosetta Stone released her cover. A year later, Bonnie Tyler released her version in September 1983. Meanwhile, Bryan Adams released his cover in February 1983.
Bonnie Tyler and Bryan Adams’ covers and versions were the successful ones around the world. Fortunately, the song has helped both the artists make their way on the stardom.
The Lyrics…
I could start dreamin’ but it never ends
As long as you’re gone we may as well pretend
I’ve been dreamin’
Straight from the heart
You say it’s easy but who’s to say
That we’d be able to keep it this way
But it’s easier
Coming straight from the heart
Give it to me straight from the heart
Tell me we can make another start
You know I’ll never go
As long as I know
It’s comin’ straight from the heart
I see you on the street some other time
And all our words would just fall out of line
While we’re dreamin’
Straight from the heart
Oh give it to me straight from the heart
Tell me we can make one more start
You know I’ll never go
As long as I know
It’s coming straight from the heart
