Blake Shelton and Trace Adkins recorded “Hillbilly Bone,” written by Luke Laird and Craig Wiseman, for Shelton’s 2010 EP of the same name, though Adkins later included it on the deluxe edition of his Cowboy’s Back in Town album. The song was released as a single in October 2009, and in March 2010, it became Shelton’s sixth No. 1 and Adkins’ fourth. It also reached the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 and won an ACM Award — Shelton’s first — for Vocal Event of the Year.

Hillbilly Bone

Everyone has a hillbilly bone inside them, according to Blake Shelton in this song. It might take the sound of a fiddle or a fine-looking country queen to bring it out, but it’s there. It’s a rather welcoming song, inviting everyone – even New Yorkers – to join in the fun.

The music video, which stars Adkins and Shelton, was filmed at the Stockyard Restaurant in Nashville, Tennessee. Roman White was the director.

Shelton and his record label, Warner Music Nashville, have called Hillbilly Bone a ‘SIX PAK,’ as it only has half a dozen tracks.

“Hillbilly” is also a nickname. It originated in the early 20th century for an inhabitant of a remote or rural region of the United States and in particular of the Appalachian Mountains of the southeast. The basic meaning of the name is a “billy” or person who comes from the hills.

On the other hand, Blake Shelton was asked during a 2017 People interview what song he’d be more than happy to never sing again. He replied:

“I’m gonna say ‘Hillbilly Bone’ because it’s uncomfortable sometimes with kids at the concert. You’re singing and you’re looking at a kid and you start talking about ‘Hillbilly Bone’… it’s uncomfortable.”

Miranda Lambert Flexes Her ‘Hillbilly Bone’ With Blake Shelton

The five-foot-four Miranda Lambert was walking tall at the 2010 Colorado State Fair — filling the six-foot-six Trace Adkins’ boots for a surprise duet with Blake Shelton on the guys’ raucous “Hillbilly Bone.”

Coincidentally, Adkins is a big part of Lambert and Shelton’s love story. Sparks first ignited between the singers during rehearsals for the 2005 CMT show, 100 Greatest Duets, on which they were paired for “You’re the Reason God Made Oklahoma” — a duet introduced by Adkins.
