Love is a force of nature. However much we may want to, we cannot command, demand, or take away love, any more than we can command the moon and the stars and the wind and the rain to come and go according to our whims. We may have some limited ability to change the weather, but we do so at the risk of upsetting an ecological balance we don’t fully understand. Similarly, we can stage a seduction or mount a courtship, but the result is more likely to be infatuation, or two illusions dancing together, than love.

Happy Feast of St. Valentine folks! Today is the day wherein we celebrate everything but love. As they say, love is in the air. For now, I would like to dedicate to all one of the finest music of Billy Dean, “You Don’t Count the Cost“.

When it comes to love, “You Don’t Count The Cost”

You don’t count the heartache
You don’t count the sacrifice
All that counts is what you feel inside
It doesn’t really matter what is gained or what is lost
When it comes to love, you don’t count the cost…

“You Don’t Count the Cost” sings of love in its deepest meanings and simplest forms. It depicts how love is not something that can be bought or monetized because it is evident in the feelings and actions we do to protect and care for the ones important to us.

Love is inherently free. It cannot be bought, sold, or traded. You cannot make someone love you, nor can you prevent it — not for any amount of money. Moreover, love cannot be imprisoned, nor can it be legislated.

Love is not a substance, not a commodity, not even a marketable power source. Furthermore, love has no territory, no borders, no quantifiable mass or energy output.

But this is the truth that we cannot deny: where there is love, there is happiness… and the other way around.

Happiness is always accompanied by love. In addition, happiness is ultimately the love of life, the celebration of living. Most noteworthy, the mark of happiness is that you are sensitive to the world around you. You acknowledge your dependence upon your surroundings and that you are filled with loving-kindness. And that makes love conquer everything…

It happens all around us
Each and every day
Someone’s giving all they got
For someone else’s sake
If you ever doubt it
Just think about the cross
When it comes to love, you don’t count the cost…
