Billy Currington held a benefit concert to help the Bahamas who is still recovering from the rampage caused by hurricane Dorian.
Perhaps one aspect we all know about Billy Currington is his love for the beach, the tropics and the relaxed life that comes with it. The tropical beach lifestyle can be said to be a part of the country star’s overall image which is why it doesn’t come as a surprise that he did something to help out the Bahamas.
The Bahamas is still currently and slowly recovering from the devastation that was caused by hurricane Dorian. The hurricane hit last week with record topping winds and rain. Deemed a “monster storm” by the Prime minister of the Bahamas, hurricane Dorian caused a great deal of damage.
The hurricane came with winds going up to 220 mph and began tearing down on the islands earlier this month. The hurricane’s rampage resulted in many ripped roofs, overturned cars, fallen power lines, and forcing thousands of locals to seek shelter in churches, schools, and other available refuges.
As of September 13, the official death count from hurricane Dorian is 50 with over 1,300 people still missing. These numbers are set to rise as relief efforts continue. So far, telecommunications in some of the major islands have been restored but many of the other services and structures are still recovering.
Billy Currington Holds Benefit To Help
Currington decided to help in the only way he knows how via a benefit concert for the Bahamas. The concert was held on September 14, (Saturday night) in Key West, Fla. All the proceeds will be going to help with the recovery of Green Turtle Cay, the island that was the setting of the star’s music video of “People Are Crazy.”
Billy Currington announced the concert via his Instagram just days before the concert was to be held explaining:
“After seeing the impact Hurricane Dorian had on the Bahamas, I feel we gotta do something, I saw that my friend Paul Menta is heading up fundraising efforts with Key West Cares and putting on a show at the Key West Theatre. I want to be a part of what they’re doing so headed down to play a few songs at the theater this Saturday night.”
The star also said he hoped to raise more money for the cause from a full-band after party at Sunset Pier. He also directed fans to the Key West Cares organization for donation options and news.
