The Best of Disney (from the Best of Country's Voice): "Baby Mine" by Alison Krauss 1

A Bit About Disney

The entertainment world is a gigantic avenue for creativity and amusement. And when we speak of media and entertainment, Walt Disney is a notable name. Who doesn’t know Walt Disney or simply Disney, by the way? Almost everyone does. But for the sake of those very rare who don’t, Disney is an American diversified multinational mass media and entertainment conglomerate. Its headquarter is located in the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California.

Disney is perhaps most popular for its numerous productions of animated cartoon character shows. Among the most common ones are Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Peter Pan, Pinocchio, and Alice in Wonderland.

Dumbo and Its Theme Song

“Baby Mine” is a song that originated from the 1941 Disney animated feature Dumbo. Dumbo is a circus elephant who charms everyone who sees him with an astounding talent. Dumbo possesses huge floppy ears that actually taught him the skill to fly.

Frank Churchill provided the music behind the song while Ned Washington penned the lyrics. Meanwhile, Betty Noyes recorded the song for the original film. Accordingly, the song received a nomination for Best Original Song at the 14th Academy Awards in 1942. In addition, it was enlisted as one of America’s greatest film songs in AFI’s “100 Years…100 Songs”.

Recordings and Alison Krauss’s Cover

Several renowned artists in the music industry have recorded the song since the late ‘80s. The American bluegrass-country singer and musician Alison Krauss was among the top singers who made their own cover of the song. Recorded for the album The Best of Country Sing the Best of Disney, the song was released in 1996. A recent version of the album titled Disney Adventures in Country came out in 2008. Walt Disney Records produced both albums. Krauss’s cover of Baby Mine landed a spot on the RPM Country Track charts in Canada peaking at No. 82. Moreover, her version garnered a Grammy nomination for Best Female Country Vocal Performance in 1997.

Below is a video of Krauss’ rendition of the song. A lullaby that would move every mother out there. Please don’t forget to share your thoughts on this article and song.
