Despite Rivalry, Army & Navy Unite for Glorious “God Bless the USA”

Every year, college football games are held across the country in order to determine the best of the best in the said sports. And, one of the most anticipated games of the year is most definitely when Army and Navy play each other. These two teams have been battling it out ever since on who is the better player.

Prior to the game, the Naval Academy and West Point glee clubs joined forces to deliver an amazing rendition of the National Anthem. Meanwhile, country singer Lee Greenwood provided a special performance of his iconic song “God Bless the USA.”

Greenwood took to Facebook prior to kickoff and expressed his support and gratitude for both teams. However, in the end, he ultimately cheered for the Navy. This is in honor of his father who served in the United States Navy.

Greenwood has performed this hit at countless events. While he sang this many times already, it has rarely hit us harder than it did during this particular game. In the video provided, you can hear everyone in the stands singing along to Greenwood’s 1984 hit song. Whereas, while watching the show, we can’t help but be moved, and it just simply tugs in the heartstring. Despite their huge rivalry at the game, the Army and the Navy united for such an inspiring performance.

Swaying together arm in arm and holding up the American flag, the servicemen and women occupying the seats at Lincoln Financial Stadium began chanting, “USA! USA! USA!” after Greenwood’s final note. And, it did give us the chills.

It feels so great listening to these men and women. Especially that they are those who have signed up to protect our country sing the lyrics to “God Bless the USA.” But, beyond the performance, we have to thank Greenwood for conceiving such a patriotic tune. He continues to remind us how lucky we are as “Americans.”

Check out the incredible performance of the Army and Navy singing along with Lee Greenwood and his “God Bless the USA:”
