In 2010, Josh Turner released “All Over Me” as the second single off his album Haywire. The song was an instant hit, it reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart. It also crossed over the all-genre singles chart, peaking at No. 59 on Billboard Hot 100.

More importantly, it ended 2010 with a bang! The song ranked No. 4 on Billboard’s Country Songs chart. Unlike most of the earlier songs by Josh Turner, this uptempo ballad is actually slightly more modern. In addition to banjo and other country elements, it features electric guitar and piano as well.

The Story Behind The Song

Written by the songwriting team The Peach Pickers – made up of country star Rhett Akins, Ben Hayslip, and Dallas Davidson, “All Over Me” finds Josh Turner singing about the perfect summer day. With the sun shining brightly, he decided to take his love interest down the riverbank, where he begged her to pour her love all over him.

“I know a spot down on the river, underneath the sycamore tree. Save all your kisses up, bring on your sweet love,” the song goes. While the lyrics are simple and something we are all familiar with, they became complete with Turner’s signature baritone.

According to Atkins, the three of them didn’t have any title mapped out or even have a direction where they were headed during the songwriting process. Still, they dove into it and came up with the perfect kind of romantic, fun summer ballad.
