For those of you, dear readers, who know Alison Krauss by heart, I’m sure you are aware that today is her birthday. Yes, it is! And our favorite bluegrass/country music singer still looks gorgeous at 47. Also, her music only grows sweeter with time. Who wouldn’t fall in love with her angelic voice? It’s just so soothing to the ears and her songs are excellently crafted that each time we listen to them, there’s no denying the tug at the heart they make.

Her Humble Beginnings and Rise to Fame

Alison Krauss, just like many of the renowned country musicians, started singing at an early age. Interestingly, she landed a recording contract at the tender age of 14. Too Late to Cry was her first solo album with Rounder Records that came out when she’s 16. She went on to join the Union Station band with whom she released several award-winning albums including Now That I Found You and Paper Airplane. Joining the Grand Ole Opry at the age of 21 made her one of the youngest members of Nashville’s famed country music institution.

Notable Records and Accolades

Her 1995 cover of Roger Miller’s “Baby Now That I Found Youwas among the first recordings that helped Krauss establish her name in the country music scene. The said song earned her a Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance. Likewise, the album on which the song was released achieved a double platinum certification. Eventually, it became the top-selling bluegrass album in recording history so far. That same year, Krauss had her first Top 10 solo hit with a cover of Keith Whitley’s “When You Say Nothing at All.”

At the 2006 Grammy Awards, Alison Krauss & Union Station band brought home yet another accolade. Specifically, their 2004 release Lonely Runs Both Ways won the Best Country Album Award. Another Grammy title came in for Krauss and the famed band in 2011 as their Paper Airplane bagged the Best Bluegrass Album award.

Aside from the Union Station band, the singer has worked with other renowned country music artists. Among them were Dolly Parton, Vince Gill, Willie Nelsonand Kenny Rogers. To date, Krauss holds the record for having the most Grammy Awards (more than 25 in total) accumulated throughout her over a three-decade career.

Way to go, Alison Krauss and we wish you the happiest birthday!
