The ACM Honors
Aside from the usual trophies handed out during its annual awards ceremony, the Academy of Country Music (ACM) gives some recognition that honor award-winning artists. To note, the ACM has established a separate ceremony for them. Furthermore, this smaller and separate show is called the ACM Honors.
Annually, this ceremony is held in Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee. It recognizes winners of Special Awards, Industry Awards, Studio Recording Awards, and the Songwriter of the Year Award. However, the most prestigious of all these is the Cliffie Stone Icon Award. This award is annually given to an artist, whom the ACM thinks, has made a great contribution to country music. For this year, the academy has chosen Alan Jackson as its honoree. Unfortunately, he was unable to attend the prestigious ceremony.
Behind Jackson’s Absence
One of the most talked about issues this year was Jackson’s announcement of the postponement of his shows in August. Even the venues where he was set to perform cited an undisclosed “illness” as the reason for putting off the events.
As revealed, Jackson still was not feeling any better by the time the ACM Honors took place on August 22. Hence, he sent his daughter, Mattie, to receive the award on his behalf.
The next day, Jackson took to social media to express his gratitude to everyone, especially to the ACM, Mattie, and his fans. Eventually, he officially shared the main reason for his absence. He cited respiratory infection as the culprit of his non-attendance to the ceremony.
In addition, he extended his thanks to fellow artists who honored him. They were Jon Pardi, Lauren Alaina, and Chris Stapleton. Among all the performances that night, Stapleton’s was one of the standouts.
Stapleton Keepin’ It Real with Jackson’s Hit
In honor of one of the living legends in country music, Stapleton decided to perform Jackson’s smash hit, “Here in the Real World.”
While known for his bluesy and soulful style, Stapleton resorted to keeping Jackson’s traditional style in singing the tune.
Truly, Stapleton brought back the authentic country sound that everyone yearns for. As for Jackson, he deserves the praise and honor, and for sure, he is very proud of these artists who have done him a tribute.
