There are so many things Jesus does for us. He sacrifices his life for all the people to be saved. Also, he moves in mysterious ways for us to be sanctified. Either small or big things, all of these, Jesus is willing to do, to ensure everyone on earth will be blessed. These are the things we need to remember by telling his story. Passing it from generation to generation is worth it. Children need to know every piece and sacrifices of Jesus. With this, let’s all be reminded of the story of Jesus by listening to Alan Jackson’s “I Love To Tell The Story.”

The Song…

Katherine Hankey was the poet behind “I Love To Tell The Story.” It was initially a poem in 1866. Furthermore, the poem was made to music by William G. Fischer released in 1869. Then, it was spread all throughout the world. And up to these days, it is one of the hymns being played in churches and many religious events.

The Story…

While Hankey was on a mission in Africa, she had a severe spell of sickness. Due to this, she wrote about the long life of Jesus in 1866. This was made in two parts. First, she wrote a poem in 50 stanzas entitled “The Story Wanted.” Second, the poem entitled “The Story Told.”

In 1867, Dr. W. H. Doane took some of the verses on the first poem. Meanwhile, specific verses were taken from the second poem to create “I Love To Tell The Story.”

The Lyrics…

I love to tell the story

Of unseen things above

Jesus and his glory

Of Jesus and his love

I love to tell the story

Because I know ‘tis true

It satisfies my longings

As nothing else can do

I love to tell the story

‘Twill be my theme in glory

To tell the old, old story

Of Jesus and his love

I love to tell the story

For those who know it best

Seem hungering and thirsting

To hear it like the rest

And when in scenes of glory

I sing the new, new song

‘Twill be the old, old story

That I have loved so long

I love to tell the story

‘Twill be my theme in glory

To tell the old, old story

Of Jesus and his love

To tell the old, old story

Of Jesus and his love

Yes, this hymn is a proof that whenever we are down are experiencing uncertainty; we turn our heads to Jesus.
