36 years ago, Alabama’s ‘Feels So Right’ Still Feels that Way

It has been 36 years, back in 1981, when RCA records released “Feels So Right” which was the fifth studio album by American country band Alabama. It was their first album to top the Billboard Top Country Albums chart. The album remained at #16 on the all-genre Billboard 200 and stayed for more than three years.

Alabama is an American country band formed in Fort Payne, Alabama in 1969. It was founded by Randy Owen and his cousin Teddy Gentry. It took a few years more though when Teddy Gentry joined them. They first operated under the name Wildcountry,  toured the Southeast bar circuit in the 1970’s and began writing original songs. In 1977, they changed their name to Alabama and following the success of their two singles, RCA records approached them for a record deal.

Alabama’s blend of traditional country music and Southern rock combined with elements of gospel, and pop music gave it a crossover appeal that helped lead to their success. They had over 30 number one country records on the Billboard charts to their credit and have had sold over 75 million records, making them one of the world’s best-selling bands of all time.

The smooth and mild delivery of the song has it made way to my ears, which reminded me of the things that feel so right. As it continues, the blending of the lightness of every pluck on the guitar and Randy’s voice gave me goosebumps. No wonder that Feels So Right was nominated for Academy of Country Music Award for Song of the Year and American Music Award for Favorite Country Single in the same year.

In a nutshell, “Feels So Right” gave me an opportunity to remind myself of the things that had given me wonderful memories. The mellow dramatic lyrics that pertain to a loved one that makes the moment feel so right.

I hope you enjoyed the music video and the lyrics as well.

“Feels So Right”

Whisper to me softly, breathe words upon my skin
No one’s near and listening, so please don’t say goodbye
Just hold me close and love me, press your lips to mine
Mmm feels so right. Feels so right.Lying here beside you I hear the echoes of your sighs
Promise me you’ll stay with me and keep me warm tonight
So hold me close and love me, give my heart a smile
Mmm feels so right. Feels so right.Your body feels so gentle and my passion rises high
You’re loving me so easy, you’re wish is my command
Just hold me close and love me, tell me it won’t end
Mmm feels so right. Feels so right.Feels so right.

Alabama, feels so right
