“Feels So Right”: The Writer, The Band, The Album

Many moons ago, people hear “Lady Down on Love”, “Tennessee River”, and “Feels So Right” being played in a local bar and restaurant in Myrtle Beach. Some friend and colleague of the band Alabama will request the songs.

These groups are not even country music fans, yet they love the songs.

In an interview, Randy Owen recalled a statement that one of his co-workers said. He warmly shared that he was told that someday he was going to make it big and that he would be able to sing that song.

The Band

For almost half a century now, Alabama has shelved up 43 number 1 hits. Twenty-one of those songs were consecutive chart-toppers. The American country music band has sold approximately 75 million albums and has won every possible industry award. In the year 2005, the band became an inductee into the Country Music Hall of Fame. On the other hand, Owen came to be part of the October 2013 induction into the Nashville Songwriter’s Hall of Fame. Several of his compositions were Alabama’s signature hits: “Feels So Right”, “Lady Down on Love”, “Tennessee River”, and “Mountain Music”.

The Writer

When Randy Owen writes, he sees to it that it is in a way that is sexy and intimate. The perfect example for that is the track “Feels So Right”. It is the type of music that warms one’s heart. The lyrics have such scenic imagery and detailed depictions that surely communicates its message to the listener.

Feels So Right and Its Success

Feels So Right is the fifth studio album by American country band Alabama. Released in February 1981 by RCA Records, it was their first number 1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart. On the all-genre Billboard 200, the album occupied the 16th spot and stayed there for more than three years.

Alabama’s most successful album Feels So Right produced three Number One hits on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart. To name, these were: “Old Flame”, “Feels So Right” and “Love in the First Degree”. The latter two also reached the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100. After some time, the Recording Industry Association of America certified Feels So Right quadruple platinum.

That certainly felt right!
