More about the 6 Country Artists Who Performed the National Anthem at the Super Bowl Part I

The first country artist to sing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl happened in 1974. Do you remember that performance? If you still don’t, then you are lucky. Putting all six country artists’ Super Bowl National Anthems together in this list, you sure can take a look back at these once-in-a-lifetime performances.

More about the 6 Country Artists Who Performed the National Anthem at the Super Bowl Part I 1

FIRST: CHARLEY PRIDE for Super Bowl VIII (1974)

Over a year after getting the award for CMA Male Vocalist of the year, Charley Pride became the first-ever artist to ever perform solo National Anthem at the Super Bowl. Supplemented by the Del Rio High School JROTC Color Guard, Pride sang “America the Beautiful” prior to the game.

He also had his most notable performances at the 1980 and 2010 World Series game.

SECOND: GARTH BROOKS for Super Bowl XXVII (1993)

Being the second country artist to perform the National Anthem at the Super Bowl, Garth Brooks changed the course of history. Did you know that Brooks walked out shortly before he was set to perform? Why so? Supposedly, he wanted to debut his song “We Shall Be Free” during the broadcast, but his request was not granted. With just 45 minutes left until kick off, Brooks left the stadium. In the long run, the game was delayed to show Brooks’ video. He then performed the National Anthem as planned.

Because of this, the Super Bowl improved the way it did the National Anthem. Starting 1993, all National Anthem performances are pre-recorded.

THIRD: FAITH HILL for Super Bowl XXXIV (2000)

Faith Hill was still enjoying her “Breathe” single success when she was invited to perform for the Super Bowl in 2000. Her version of the National Anthem has appeared in many “bests” of Super Bowl performances. Hill’s connection to football did not end there. In 2007, she became the voice of the NFL on NBC’s Sunday Night Football. Since then, Hill sang the theme song for Sunday Night Football in a series of advertisements and publicity clips. In 2009, Hill returned to the Super Bowl where she sang “America the Beautiful” before the game.

That ends our Part 1, fellas. We have three more artists on the list. Hold your horses before pointing out who your favorite is.
