The 53rd Academy of Country Music Awards brought the Country Music’s biggest stars to return to Las Vegas yesterday night (April 15). As expected, Reba McEntire, being the host, set the tone with a few wild moments of her own. Adding to the spice was her performance with Kelly Clarkson that proved their undying music vigor.
Miranda Lambert, Keith Urban, Little Big Town, Jason Aldean, Blake Shelton and Dierks Bentley nailed the stage with their outstanding performances. However, one of the most memorable parts of the show was Carrie Underwood’s first stage appearance after her accident. With “Cry Petty,” Underwood sang against a backdrop of sparkling pink lights and wore a glittery dress along with rhinestones under her eyes as audience members stood to watch her sing. The audience gave Underwood a standing ovation for her performance.
The highlight of the show, of course, was the announcement of the awardees. We are listing down the complete list of winners below, only for you.
Jason Aldean wins entertainer of the year
After thanking his loved ones, Jason Aldean said,
“It’s been a rough year. I just want to say thanks to everybody that reached out to us that showed us love and support over the last six months. It meant the world to us.”
Sam Hunt wins single record of the year
Hunt, a former Birmingham resident, took home the trophy for “Body Like a Back Road,” a song inspired by his wife, Alabama native Hannah Lee Fowler.
Brothers Osborne wins vocal duo of the year
John and TJ Osborne Country duo is the new reigning ACM Vocal Duo of the Year for the second year in a row.
Miranda Lambert is ACM’s most awarded artist
Miranda Lambert remains unstoppable! For the ninth time, she brings home the award for Female Vocalist of the Year. Not only that, last night, she also won the Song of the Year with “Tin Man”. Great talent indeed!
Old Dominion wins vocal group of the year
Proving that they are not your average country band, Old Dominion prevails as the vocal group of the year. Their award sets us to expect more from them in these coming days.
2 awards for Chris Stapleton
Yesterday seemed to have been a fated day for Stapleton. Aside from having a new-born twin, (congrats to the new parents!) his album “From a Room: Vol. 1” earned its deserved reward. Not only that, he was named the Male Vocalist of the Year.
Other big-time awardees include Midland (New Vocal Duo or Group Of The Year), Brett Young (New Male Vocalist Of The Year), and Lauren Alaina (New Female Vocalist Of The Year).
Above all the reasons and celebrations for last night’s grandiose show, ACM paid tribute to the Nevada Shooting victims. Six months ago, a gunman killed 58 people at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in that same city. The unfortunate event was the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history. Before the main event, some Country stars managed to conduct concerts and performances to pay tribute to the shooting incident victims. But as Jason Aldean stated, the celebration of music last night was for the victims.
COUNTRY MUSIC continues to make noise all around the world as this particular genre will never die. Country Thang Daily warmly congratulates all ACM winners. Cheers for more countrified celebrations to come!
