Hello by Adele is undeniably one of the best songs released in 2015. At the 59th Annual Grammy Awards, “Hello” won three Grammy Awards: Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance. Its video reached 1 billion YouTube views (88 days) the shortest time. By the end of 2015, it had sold 12.3 million units globally (combined sales and track-equivalent streams) and was the year’s 7th best-selling single. Need I say more?
Well now, here we have a Country music artist who is trying to break more records if I may say. Meet Jake Nelson, who made his very own cover of Hello in December 22, 2015. It currently has almost 38,000 views on YouTube. A lot of the comments are positive and most of them are saying that this version is waaay better than the original.
Jake Nelson was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota and he has been a singer/ songwriter for quite some time now. In his page he says he is ”A self-taught artist with inspirations in various genres-from country to rock to alternative, kick back, turn it up,and enjoy!”
He has been making waves in the local music scene since 2015, playing gigs in the Twin Cities and surrounding suburbs. In April 2015, he released his first full-length self written, produced, recorded and mastered album “Full Swing”. His bio says he “loves the studio as much as he loves the stage.” He has been in the studio working on his debut studio album with friend and fellow producer Damien Jungroth which was released June 25th 2017.
His musical inspiration ranges from Frank Sinatra to Phil Collins to Dustin Lynch, Jake’s style is a unique blend of alternative, country, mixed with a little of himself. His original songs stem from experiences of love , friendship, and simple living. He’s opened for national artists: Thompson Square, Rodney Atkins, Sam Hunt, Dylan Scott, and Dylan Jakobsen as well as talented Twin Cities-based bands like Maiden Dixie, Hitchville, and The Plott Hounds.
Jake is starting to get recognized as a serious artist with the help of loyal fans, YouTube subscribers and through his live performances. He is simply humbled by the support he and his music continue to receive. If you haven’t heard his music, give it a listen– you may just find yourself a new favorite rising artist.
