10 Before Stardom Clips Showcasing Country Stars’ Boundless Talents Part II

On a deeper level, our country icons’ before stardom videos can encourage a struggling worker, artist or student to see that even superstars like Garth Brooks or Shania Twain tussled for success for years. Here are the last five of our Top 10 videos to share.

Hank Williams, Jr.

In 1963, ten years after Hank Sr. died, 14-year-old Hank Jr. took the stage at the Grand Ole Opry. He displayed an aura following his father’s footsteps right then. This rare footage is a preview of Hank Williams Jr.’s early beginnings. He definitely showed just how much talent he inherited from his legendary father. The early years of his singing were filled with performances of him singing and duplicating his father’s hits and style. Having the stage to himself, the teenager starts right in singing “Your Cheatin’ Heart” with his best vocal nature. He truly is a talented singer and demonstrates that in every way during the show.

Margo Price

Not too long ago, at the back of limelight, Margo Price and a couple of her bandmates performed in Buffalo Clover. Before solo success came with the help of Jack White, a preview of Price’s beloved sophomore album hid in sight.

LeAnn Rimes

LeAnn Rimes mesmerized people at a young age by belting out songs with conviction as if she was Patsy Cline herself. Shortly before becoming a teenage country music star, Rimes also shared her growing talent the same route as Justin Timberlake did. Here’s a clip of her at Star Search‘s junior vocalist competition.

Ricky Skaggs

Many future country stars started as bluegrass musicians. Examples of teenage pickers turned mainstream stars include Alison Krauss, Keith Whitley, and Marty Stuart. As far as footage of this trend goes, nothing beats a tiny Ricky Skaggs holding his own on television with Earl Scruggs and Lester Flatt.

Carrie Underwood

Pre-American Idol Carrie Underwood heaps up well against anyone on the list. As an unknown teenager, Underwood led 71 South Band in this performance of Martina McBride’s “Broken Wing.” Her mighty voice was heard before Sunday Night Football and before the American Idol judges capped Underwood the next big thing.
