Anne Murray is one of the first Canadian artists to achieve global success. With some of her hits like “Snowbird,” the singer solidified her name in the country and pop music scene. Born in a family of doctor and nurse, Anne Murray developed a different interest. She started to gravitate towards music at a very young age and grew up loving music.
She did not pursue music at first because the singer did not see it as a viable option. For a while, she taught at a school as a physical education teacher, but she later pursued her love of music when the opportunity called.
Anne Murray’s Hit “You Needed Me”
The song was penned Randy Goodrum who said that the inspiration behind it is about “unconditional undeserved love.” This was recorded by Anne Murray back in 1978 that helped her revitalize her career after it slowed down. This was such a major hit both with the critics and the music fans. In fact, “You Needed Me” gave Murray another Grammy win for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. It was also a crossover hit as it topped the charts for Billboard Hot 100.
The country singer then re-recorded it with country-pop star Shania Twain for Murray’s 2007 album.
I needed you and you were there
And I’ll never leave, why should I leave?
I’d be a fool ’cause I finally found someone who really cares
The track revolves around unconditional love. As the lyrics suggest, the person he loves never left him and he now feels like he doesn’t deserve it. There is just so much love and loyalty given to him that he starts to question if he is deserving of that love. And then, there is a realization that the only way to repay everything that was done for him is to show the same loyalty and commitment.
When you find someone who will love you with all your flaws, never let them go. These people are like rare gems and so, they must be kept and protected.
